Disconnect to Connect

At Whitney, we take pride in being a tech-free experience for all involved; campers and staff.  Our leaders trade screens for meaningful relationships, real conversations, and busy routines for purposeful days.

While on duty, all employees of Camp Whitney are expected to refrain from accessing personal tech (cell phone / tablet, laptop, etc.).  If it becomes necessary (work-related, family emergency, etc.), we request that it is done as discreetly as possible.  The campers and other counselors will not be using their devices, so this sets a good example for everybody at camp.

We hire great people to mentor, lead, and grow alongside campers, building community, confidence, and unforgettable experiences without digital distractions.

Responsibilities

Get ready to RING THE BELL!

Your first week will prep you for the madness!

You will have an assigned employee for all food pick-ups throughout the summer.  It will be important to communicate well with this individual.

You will place your first week's food order the weekend previous for Sunday pick-up.

Week one will be staff training week.  Far fewer numbers, more flexible schedule and less choices / variety required = ultimately less stress!  You will make time to plan and order your first large full-camp grocery purchase.  You will get your kitchen workspace fully cleaned and organized, and ensure all equipment - including fridges and freezers - are operational and tested.  Additionally you will organize and tidy all storage spaces in the hall and kitchen to ensure functionality.  You will coordinate with Maintenance if there are any tasks needing his immediate attention.

Weeks 2-6 will be regular camp weeks.  You will plan and prepare daily meals and snacks for campers and staff, accommodating any dietary restrictions, allergies, and special needs required, while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized kitchen and dining area.  You will be responsible for managing food inventory, storage, and ordering.  You will work alongside the Camp Programming Coordinator to deliver themed meals, day-trip bagged lunches, bbq days and special events, and ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.

Other staff and / or volunteers will be responsible for kitchen season-end closing procedures.  You will simply organize and tidy the kitchen as normal after your final day of meal prep.
