United Church Camp
Elk Point, Alberta
Camp Waterfront Coordinator

Make a Splash This Summer!
We're on the lookout for a vigilant, energetic Waterfront Coordinator to keep our campers safe and smiling all summer long! You'll be the calm in the chaos, the watchful eye on the water, and the go-to for sunny day fun. If you have your Red Cross Lifeguard Certification and/or National Lifesaving Lifeguard Certification, strong swimming skills, a cool head, and a passion for safety (with a side of sunshine), this is your moment to dive in and make waves!
Dates
Start: June 29th, 2026 - End - Aug 14th, 2026 (7 weeks)
Hours Per Week - As this is an overnight camp experience, you are going to be busy but with more 'regular' daytime hours. We're going to try to give you Friday afternoon through Sunday noon off each week (fingers' crossed). Your time will be roughly spent 65% on your own and 35% supervising children's water / beach play.
Salary
$700 - $1,000 / Week (dependent on experience / certific'ns)
Note: Due to the nature of this position, candidates can expect to be paid at a higher rate when they are providing lifeguarding services, and at a lower rate when they are performing equipment and beach labour duties. The job is all wrapped into one full-day role.
Meals & Lodging
Meals and lodging are included, and the Waterfront Coordinator is encouraged to sleep on site each week. However, if the best candidate is local and willing to drive each day, then we can be convinced to hire a non-residential Coordinator.
Disconnect to Connect
At Whitney, we take pride in being a tech-free experience for all involved; campers and staff. Our leaders trade screens for meaningful relationships, real conversations, and busy routines for purposeful days.
While on duty, all employees of Camp Whitney are expected to refrain from accessing personal tech (cell phone / tablet, laptop, etc.). If it becomes necessary (work-related, family emergency, etc.), we request that it is done as discreetly as possible. The campers and other counselors will not be using their devices, so this sets a good example for everybody at camp.
We hire great people to mentor, lead, and grow alongside campers, building community, confidence, and unforgettable experiences without digital distractions.
Responsibilities
You are "all-things" beachfront and water wackiness!
Your four main tasks:
1. Provide water time programming ideas for all camps
2. Provide engaged lifeguarding service during lake time
3. Prepare the waterfront for safe activity. Pulling weeds, raking shoreline, tidying debris. Whatever you notice is out of place and not ready for an army of children - take care of it. Inside the fence - is all you!
4. Ensure all equipment is functional and clean and up to our Whitney standards. Present a well organized storage area for all supplies and equipment.
Working directly with the Camp Coordinator to develop the recreational programming and camp itineraries for each week of this year's summer camp, including all waterfront activities. You are responsible for the safety of campers, staff, volunteers and possibly Board members during all recreational activities and must organize and ensure there is adequate staff for each activity, as well as ensure that programming runs smoothly. In addition to Red Cross and/or National Lifesaving Lifeguard Certification, desired skills include the ability to stay calm under pressure, being able to delegate tasks, canoe instructor certification, and even archery certification.
